It’s a repeating cycle, this thing called Religion

Today, America and many of the European countries are concerned that the Islamic culture and religion is slowly taking over their communities and threatening their way of life. If that is in fact so, this wouldn’t be the first time that a foreign culture and religion has infiltrated and replaced a well established one would it?

Thousands of years ago, the Jewish religion founded by a man who claimed God spoke directly to him, infiltrated and took over an entire region of the eastern world.

Years later, a certain group of these Jews, formed their own religion which they called Christianity, and proceeded to infiltrate and convert everyone and take over all countries that they could lay their hands on. They had a hard time taking over the Romans, but eventually, Rome fell and the Emperor adopted this new culture and religion.

A few years later, another group was formed, again by a man who claimed that he was directed by God to dictate how humans should live. This group continues to fight the good fight up to this day and infiltrate all and sundry by any means necessary,  so the cycle continues and we wait to see who would triumph in the end.

It is interesting to note that each of these groups claimed to be “Peace Loving” and that their aim was to unite all peoples of the world. The reality is that regardless of how well intentioned they might have been in the beginning, nothing has brought more suffering and sewn more discord among humanity than these religions. (maybe racism is running a close second).

We can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result, so perhaps the total rejection of all religions is the real path to peace, happiness and brotherly love. Maybe it’s time to give secularism a chance.
